Lanny Ross
Description: Lanny Ross, singer. Appeared on various CBS and NBC radio programs in the 1930s and 1940s. His "Lanny Ross Program" aired on radio from 1948 to 1952. "Moonlight and Roses bring wonderful memories of you. My soul..." but Lanny Ross never had the chance to finish his signature song on radio for, he says, the announcer always broke in to introduce the program. At two, Lanny was a choir boy at the Cathedral of St. John The Divine, at four he played with the Ben Greet Shakespearean Company. He was leader of the Glee Club at The Taft School. The versatile young singer was a track champion at Yale, competing against Oxford and Cambridge, but foregoing the Olympics to tour Europe as tenor soloist with the Yale Glee Club. Radio appearances but Lanny through Columbia University Law School, as he combined Blackstone with The Baybestos Hour, Hellmann's, and his own "Troubadour fo the Moon" series. The decision between law and singing careers was difficult to make, but radio has been the richer for Lanny Ross's contribution to it. When he makes personal appearances he sings "Moonlight and Roses" from beginning to end. Photo circa. 1931
