First line: “Good morning dear, wake up, look outside!”
Summary: Mr and Mrs Piper resolve their New Years Resolutions together. They both list the faults in each other’s character including Mr Piper always leaving wet towels on the floor and Mrs Piper constantly saying “you know” at the end of sentences. They do however both agree not to get mad at each other in front of their child, Betsy. This new found patience is tested when the car keys are lost on the snow-covered drive. The keys are found but Mrs Piper remembers that the car is broken and is being fixed so Mr Piper is forced to take a taxi to work.

First line: “Stand still, stand still now Betsy, let mum get the band-aid on.”
Summary: Mr Piper returns home from work early to find his wife attending to little Betsy who has been pushed down by Marie-Lou Kendle and is having a bump on her forehead treated. Betsy claims that Marie-Lou took her sledge and pushed her over. Mrs Piper tells her husband he should confront Marie-Lou’s father. Mr Piper soon receives a call from Mr Kendle who claims Betsy is not telling the truth. An argument soon breaks out between the men. Mr and Mrs Kendle visit the Pipers in person. Both sets of parents are adamant that the other’s child is to blame and the meeting descends into bickering. Mrs Kendle slips on the snow as she leaves the house. No sooner has the argument ended when the children are best friends again. All seems well until Mr Kendle returns threatening to sue for the accident his wife has on the Piper’s steps.
