OTRR Release Issues

Here is a single place to keep track of all issues, no matter how big or small, pertaining to our OTRR Releases. Issues including typos, CDCheck CRC warnings/errors, incorrectly named episodes, incorrect MP3 tags, file/folder name length issues, etc, etc, as well as suggestions for the next release. This information can be used to address these issues in the next release of the series, and to prevent similar types of issues from occuring in other releases.

21st Precinct, Version 1

  • File named “21precinctInside1..jpg”:
    • “Your in the Muster Room”…. should be “You’re in the Muster Room….”
    • “Realistic police drama in the Dragnet mould” should use American spelling of “mold” instead of British spelling of “mould”.
    • “Broadcast from 7–71953 to 7–26–1956″ should be “Broadcast from 7–7−1953 to 11–1−1956″.

Barrie Craig, Confidential Investigator, Version 1

(See Also Version 3 below)

  • There appear to be multiple “Version 1″ releases of this series: one release has two CRC files on CD #1, both of which report errors/warnings. Another “Version 1″ release (originally downloaded from the OTRR Hub) has clean CRC files. This latter version has been re-uploaded to archive.org (06-Jun-2008).
  • But, the version uploaded to archive.org has “You Bet Your Life” MP3 tags.
MP3 tags corrected on archive.org. See BCCI Version 3 comments below. (14-Jun-2008)
  • Checking the TTH numbers for random BCCI episodes on the Hub, there are a minimum of three different OTRR Certified BCCI “Version 1″ releases floating around.

Barrie Craig, Confidential Investigator, Version 3

(See Also Version 1 above)

  • Version 1 episode files have had their MP3 tags corrected back to BCCI data. Files replaced on the http://www.archive.org/details/OTRR_Certified_Barrie_Craig page on 14-Jun-2008.
  • Version number also bumped up from 1 to 3, although this is not reflected in the Certification Document.
  • Multiple CRC files on each CD — but on both disks,CDCheck comes back without warnings or errors for the Ver3 CRC file.

Bing Crosby-Rosemary Clooney Show, Version 1

  • CDCheck Warning: CRC file indicates that “\Documents\The Crosby-Clooney Show.doc” on CD #1 should be a file in the release, but this file is missing.

    61/11/02 338 First Song - It’s A Most Unusual Day
Misnumbered Episodes Should Be:
61/10/30 435 First Song - This Thing Called Love
61/10/31 436 First Song - Anything You Can Do
61/11/01 437 First Song - I Can’t Get Started

  • 62/05/01 566 First Song - Mountian Greenery Home s/b 62/05/01 566 First Song - Mountain Greenery Home

  • The song Suwanee was misspelled a few times

Boston Blackie, Version 2

  • The episode “47–03–04 Larry The Kid vs Savinni” is not the episode on CD 1. It is actually a duplicate of “47–06–04 Eva Cronin is Stalked”.

Broadway’s My Beat, Version 1

  • The collection is missing an available file - 49–03–06 The Andrew Jenkins Case (Golden Gold)
  • File and folder names are too long, particularily under the “Logs and Such\Radio Schedules” folder on CD #1. Depending on how you receive the release (archive.org, Hub) or on how someone further up the Distro chain copied the CD/DVD, it’s possible that Windows silently truncates long file names. There is a hard limit to the length of a file name in Windows — this limit is for the full filename — starting with the “C:\” portion of the name, including all file folder names, all the way down to the individual file. If too long, Windows starts silently truncating the name. This results in CDCheck generating two warnings for every file — one for “I can’t find a file that I expect to find” and one for “I found a file I didn’t expect to find”.

Bright Star, Version 2

  • The episode
    Bright Star 52–12–04 (07) George & The Chorus Girl.mp3
appears to actually be a version of:
Bright Star 53–06–04 (33) George & Chorus Girl.mp3
  • The OTRR log and the episode description included with the distro indicate episode 7 should be “Estate Left to a Cat”. (The ID3 title tag on the file says “Estate Left To A Cat” but the content is “Chorus Girl”.)
  • The episode:
    Bright Star 52–12–11 (08) George & The Society Burglar.mp3
appears to actually be a version of:
Bright Star 53–06–11 (34) The Society Burglar.mp3
  • Although the OTRR log shows “Society Burglar” as episode 8, the episode descriptions included with the distro have episode 8 being about a “True Confessions” lawsuit. I suspect that the episode 8 included with the distro is actually episode 34 and the log should be changed to list episode 8 as something like “True Confessions Lawsuit”.

Challenge of the Yukon, Version 1

  • CDCheck Warning: CRC file indidates that “\Pictures\Thumbs.db” on CD #1 should be a file in the release, but this file is missing.
NOTE: The “thumbs.db” is a hidden file which Windows automatically generates once you open a picture file in a folder. This file may be included in the Distros sent via US Post Office, but is not included when downloading a series from the OTRR Hub, because by default DC++ software does not share hidden files.
  • CDCheck Warnings - CDCheck expected to find these files on CD #7 but did not find them:

  • CDCheck Warnings: All 51 of the MP3 files on CD #7 generate two warnings each — it appears the MP3 files were all renamed to add the episode number to the file name after the CDCheck CRC file was generated. A total of 102 warnings for CD #7 are generated.
  • Multiple Version 1 Alert: It appears that CD#7 has been modified since this series was released. The original CRC file for CD #7 (generated 25-Apr-2008) was regenerated (on 28-May-2008) to correct these issues. CDCheck now returns without errors or warnings for CD#7 using this new CRC file.

  • 49–03–16 (626) The Kondike Queen s/b spelled The Klondike Queen. I know the “official” log lists it as Kondike, but it is obviously a typo as the word is Klondike and it is prounounced Klondike throughout the show.
  • 49–03–28 (631) Conover’s Crime is missing the last 8 minutes of the show. If the complete show is not available it would be helpful to add (incomplete) to the title to alert people who might have a complete version

  • Dragnet 55–05–24 (301) The Big Siege.mp3 plays at double speed.
  • The episode #382 is an AFRS broadcast and shouldn’t be presented as #382. The orig. broadcast (#240) was sponsored.
  • Episode (333) is really Episode (185). The end of show promo for the Barrie Craig show is the clue.

  • Episode 2, 52–05–03 Ben Thompson is not in the collection, but Act 1 of the episode is now available. This is the correctly labeled show, not a misdated show.
  • Gunsmoke 57–12–29 Where’d They Go.mp3 is missing the program #, 299 in the name of the mp3 file.

The Hillbilly Boys, Version 1

  • On CD #1, the letter i should not not be capitalized in the word Little for the file “The Hillbilly Boys 39-xx-xx (03) First Song - LIttle Mother Of The Hill.mp3″
  • On CD #2, under Interesting Files, a file titled “.mp3″ turned out to be Yiddish Melodies in Swing

    • Lightcrust Doughboys
    • Light Crust Doughboys
  • “Light Crust Doughboys 36–05–01 (xxxx) First Song - Paris Top Cornpipe.mp3″: The title of the song sounds like Paris Soft Hornpipe.
  • “Light Crust Doughboys 48-xx-xx (1218) First Song - Barrell Polka.mp3″: Barrel is misspelled
  • Andrew Steinberg has a Light Crust Doughboys show not in the collection: “Lightcrust Doughboys 1302 First Song - Dixie One Step.mp3″

Moon Over Africa, Version 1

  • CDCheck Warning: CRC file indicates that “OTRR Group Certification Document\OTRRCertified.rtf” on CD #1 should be a file in the release, but this file is missing.

Mr Keen, Tracer of Lost Persons, Version 3

  • 52–02–22 Murder and the Revengeful Ghost should correctly be dated 55–02–22 The Case of Murder and the Revengeful Ghost

Philo Vance, Version 1

  • Mike Harron comment, added 6/26/08
recently downloaded the Philo Vance certified series. The first two episodes are listed as 43–04–29 The Case of the Cellini Cat and 43–05–06 The Mystery of the Singing Cat. The 43–05–06 episode is merely a place note to state the episode exists but a copy has not yet been found. However the first episode is an mp3. It starts out with an announcement of the title, followed by an introduction of the star, John Emery, star of the broadway hit Angel Street.

John Dunning makes no mention of Mr. Emery in his summary of Philo Vance, and states that the show started on NBC on July 5, 1945. This is confirmed in the NY Times radio listing for that day, courtesy of jj. I searched the newspaper listing for earlier dates for Philo but to no avail.

I read somewhere that John Emery starred in a version released on the west coast during the summer of 1946 or 7, but I haven’t been able to confirm that. The IMDB listing for Mr Emery shows him appearing in Angel Street on Broadway in Dec 1940. Can anyone shed any light on the 1943 dates?

  • Andrew Steinberg comment, added 6/27/08
According to the ibdb.com (a better source for Broadway play information than imdb.com, John Emery performed in Angel Street from December 1942 to May 1943.

Ports of Call, Version 1

  • Episodes missing from the collection that are now circulating include: New Zealand, Persia, and Peru

Singles and Doubles Collection, Version 2

  • Most of the folder names and MP3 file names in this non-certified release are tremendously long — Windows silently truncates full file names which are too long (over 240 characters, including all folder names). This can be a serious issue for files retrieved from the hub, especially depending on the length of the folder names on your local hard drive where you store your downloaded or shared files.
  • Because each file begins with the text “Singles and Doubles Collection (xxxx)” many of the file names were cut off.
  • 41–12- 08_xxx_Adventure _Story.mp3 was Let’s Sing and Swing from 12–12–08 (broadcast on NBC Red at 1330 with news of the declaration of war)
  • 41–12- 08_xxxx_Adventure_Story.mp3 is apparently the second half of Let’s Sing and Swing)
  • theo points out that 48–12–28 xxx American Forum Economic Forecast for_1949 turns out to be a kids show called Happy the Humbug 481228, with the open cut.
  • Best Sellers 45–09–20 was John B. Kennedy
  • Bob Smith Show should be dated 47–08–25
  • 47–04–26xxxBreakfastwithDorothyandD ick.mp3 s/b dated 47–05–09

  • There are two files floating around out there that are labelled “Action 80″. One is Project Sailfish and the other is First Atomic Sub. These two shows are presently listed in the Singles and Doubles Collection. I just listened to both of them and determined that they are the same show. Project Sailfish has a date but the other does not, according to Otter. I suggest that the undated “First Atomic Sub” be deleted from the Otter log. (Thomas Mandeville, 04-Jul-2008)

Theater Royal, Version 1

  • 540130 18 Dr Jekyl and Mr Hyde.mp3 - The word Jekyll is misspelled
  • 540818 46 The Sir de Maletroit’s Door -Repeat.mp3 - The word Sire is misspelled.
  • From episode 45 through episode 48, the host explains that the show is part of an important series command performance. For instance episode 45 says, “Tonight’s play is the third in the important series of command performances.” Episodes 43 and 44 do not have the message and in fact sound identical to episodes 1 and 2, leading to the conclusion that 43 and 44 are possibly misdated copies of 1 and 2. The endings of 43 and 44 are edited which could indicate that they were rebroadcasts, but it is not clear why the announcement is not present at the beginning. Anyway, both should have been labeled as repeats as episodes 45 through 48 were.

Victor Borge Collection, Version 2

  • The file “Victor Borge Jewel Case inside.jpg” has a misspelling: “Colection” should have two “L”s.
  • How do we determine who designed it? There’s no credit in the documentation for the collection. Perhaps someone can recognize the work of the artist. (Arnie Gross, 13-Jul-2008)

X Minus One, Version 1

  • MP3 Tag Issues: “Track” is sometimes filled in (not very often).
  • MP3 Tag Issues: “Genre” is filled in about half the time. Most of the “Genre” tags are “Old Time Radio”, but some are “Other” or “OTR”. One (Episode 121) is “Big Band”.
