Christmas Sing with Bing

Some of you will remember that three years ago there was a spontaneous effort to put together the Christmas Sing with Bings on our Facebook page. Before they disappeared into the Facebook feed we uploaded them together as a set to Archive.org for the future. Here we are, in the future, and here’s a link to these holiday clasics.

Duffy’s Tavern v. 2111

Our newest set, Duffy’s Tavern, is now available on Archive.org. We tested it this summer and you all responded with some good feedback, corrections, and file upgrades. In case you missed Brian’s posting a little while back, find it now on Archive. Once again, thanks to Dave Tysver for getting it uploaded for everyone.

Suspense log

https://archive.org/details/ScottSuspense2021
This the log of Suspense as complied Keith Scott. He researched it for 40+ years, much of it when he made trips from his native Australia to do animation voices and voiceovers in Hollywood. (Keith was a big fan of the Jay Ward cartoons when he was growing up, and became the voice of Bullwinkle in the 2000 movie The Adventures of Rocky & Bullwinkle. He is the author of The Moose that Roared, an entertaining history of the studio.)

Keith also had access to many private research interviews, and conducted many of his own, with producers, directors, actors, effects artists, and others who participated in the program or influenced its production. Many of these details are new to all us Suspense fans.

The 275+ page document includes a series overview (14,000+ words) and the marvelous log of 944 episodes of the series that includes dates of broadcast, casts, plot summaries, and other important (and entertaining) details. Background of some of the recorded or planned broadcasts that were never aired are also included. Important details of the series audition in 1940 and the role of Alfred Hitchcock in the development of Suspense will be new to many collectors.

Keith is making this available as a free PDF. I have been working with him on a lot of Suspense recordings and topics over the past 3 years, but I have known Keith for almost 40 years. A highlight of my OTR life was not meeting some celebrity, or getting a rare program, it was the day that Keith and I spent at Thousand Oaks Library in June 2019 just going through Suspense and other series! I was so pleased to help Keith with proofing, editing, and working on the desktop publishing of the document.

If you enjoy the document, please email Keith — his address is on page 3 of the PDF. If you have suggestions for the document, please contact him.

Be sure to also download Keith’s Escape log.

Cecil and Sally

Some of you remember Doug Hopkinson, an active member during the early years of this group. He is still busy in the hobby, just not with OTRR. One of his pet series the last 12 years or so has been Cecil and Sally. He practically single-handedly brought this program back into circulation among hobbyists. He has the opportunity to purchase more than 600 discs of the series at a total price of $5,000. This is out of his budget so he has created a Kickstarter to attempt to fund it. It’s a bit pricey but please take a look. Doug’s recording skills are superior and he’s been working with transcriptions for years. Cecil and Sally has become one of my favorite series! The link to his Kickstarter.

Martin Grams’ Lone Ranger

I don’t recall if this was posted earlier, but Martin Grams’ newest book is expected to release mid-June. It is The Lone Ranger: The Early Years, 1933 – 1937. If you’re a Lone Ranger fan, it’s a no-brainer. Initially I was disappointed when it was announced because I wanted a history of the entire show and this only covers the first years. However, Martin noted in a Facebook message that there are an additional three volumes planned (years out). If you order before it comes in from the printer he is not charging shipping. Cost is $34.95 for a 800-page volume (the majority I expect to be a detailed episode guide that is famous for). If you’re interested, order here.
